HAZARD — A Perry County man who escaped from work detail on June 3 is still on the loose this week.

James Herald, 33, of Combs allegedly ran away from work detail in Perry County Park. Herald was lodged at Kentucky River Regional Jail for two different offenses from 2011 and 2012. He had served the first 33 days of his one-year sentence for shoplifting and public intoxication, according to court records.

Herald was reported to have fled in the direction of the Combs community. Both the Hazard Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office searched for him for several hours on July 3 without finding him. They believe he may have had someone in a vehicle pick him up.

Perry County Sheriff’s Deputy Elmer Fugate noted recently that they have not received any further information as to his whereabouts, but they are continuing to search several areas for him.

Once he is found he will face an additional charge of escape.
