The Perry Middle School Commodores hosted the Whitesburg Yellowjackets Thursday in middle school football action. The Commodores got on the board first, but could not hold on as Whitesburg took the lead. Perry Middle had to rely on a late touchdown to force overtime.
Neither team was able to score in the first period. Perry Middle picked up the game’s first touchdown in the second period as Brackston Miller carried the ball over the end line for a 3-yard score. Braxton Whitaker added the conversion for the 8-0 lead. The game went to the intermission tied at eight.
Whitesburg tied the score after connecting on a 45-yard touchdown catch (8-8). The Yellowjackets then took the lead after picking up a fumble and running it into the end zone (16-8).
Late in the game, Perry Middle picked up a touchdown on a 25-yard pass and catch between Ethan Caldwell and Braxton Whitaker. Brackston Miller tied the game with the conversion run.
Neither team was able to score in the first overtime, and Whitesburg won the game with a touchdown in the second overtime.
