The Perry County Central Lady Commodores played a couple of soccer games last week, and came away with the split. The Lady Commodores suffered their first shutout of the season on Thursday, as they lost to the Letcher Central Lady Cougars. They then came back with a 6-0 win over Elliott County in a rain shortened affair.
Perry Central could not get their offense started in their game with Letcher Central, and went down 2-0. The loss put the Lady Commodores in the second seed position for the upcoming district tournament. Makenzie Morgan had nine saves in the game.
On Saturday, the Lady Commodores took on Elliott County on senior night. The game would not go the distance due to a monsoon that hit in the second half.
Sarah Melton opened the scoring with a quick goal. Melton received a cross from Ashley Morris that left her behind the defense. A few minutes later Shyann Sizemore headed a cross from Tori Couch into the net to give Perry Central the 2-0 lead.
At the 26th minute, Tori Couch took the corner kick, and then finished off the rebound for the 3-0 lead. Elliott County got the next goal, but it was in Perry Central’s net (4-0). Couch followed with her second goal of the game as she took a shot from long range, sending the Lady Commodores to the break with the 5-0 advantage.
Kailen Combs opened the second half with her first career goal. Combs dribbled through the defense and nailed a shot past the goalie. Shortly after, the skies opened up, and the game was cancelled.
