Joe W. Duncan, 85, of Hazard, passed away Friday, Oct. 5 at the Hazard ARH medical center. He was the owner and operator of the Hazard Rexall Drug.
Mr. Duncan graduated from the University of Kentucky Medical School, and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a member of the Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
He was the son of the late Clarence Duncan and the late Mary Wentland Duncan, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Cavanah, and brothers Parker W., Dr. Frank, and David Duncan.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth S. Duncan; sons Bruce Duncan and wife Carolyn of Lexington, and Dana Joe Duncan of Hazard, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 Services will be held at the Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9 with Father Mike Chowning officiating. Interment will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery at Nancy, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
