Buckhorn Reunion


The Buckhorn Alumni Association will host the Buckhorn Reunion on Oct. 19, 20, and 21. Activities will include music, dancing, good food, and lots of fun for young and old alike. Activities on Friday will be held at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park with registration beginning at 2 p.m. followed by a dinner buffet. The social hour will begin at 7 p.m. in the park’s lobby area. The events on Saturday will begin at noon at Buckhorn Lake Area Church with a lunch for classmates and friends to meet and enjoy time together followed by the Business Meeting at 1:30 p.m. to elect officers. The lunch is a fundraiser for the Church Renovation Project. On Saturday evening we will have a dance (with refreshments provided) at 7 p.m. at Buckhorn School along with a silent auction. On Sunday, we will join together for a community church service at the Log Cathedral and installation of officers. All alumni and friends are encouraged to attend. Women’s health screenings


The Kentucky River District Health Department is sponsoring Women’s Health clinics in order to help women receive routine screenings that they might not be able to get. The schedule for the clinics is as follows: Lee County Health Department on October 17; Perry County Health Department on October 18; Leslie County Health Department on October 22; Letcher County Health Department on October 23; Wolfe County Health Department on October 29; Owsley County Health Department on October 30; Knott County Health Department on November 14. Women over the age of 18 who have never had a Pap test or have not have one in the past three years qualify for a project that will provide them with a $20 gift card when they receive a Pap test at their county health department on the day of the Women’s Health clinic. Women who have had a Pap test within the past 3 years or women who have had a complete hysterectomy will not qualify for this program.


Fall Fun Fest


Fall Fun Fest at Davidson Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. Fun for the whole family including inflatables, games, prizes, car smash, cake walk, food and lots more. Everything is free. For questions call 436-6593.


Fundraiser for Log Cathedral at Buckhorn


A fundraising event to help fund the restoration project of the Log Cathedral at Buckhorn will include soup and sandwich dinners for $6 per person. Children 8 and under are free. The dinners will be sold from noon to 5 p.m. at the Buckhorn Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Oct. 20. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 398-7786 or 398-7365.


Lothair Church of Christ Lectureship


Lothair Church of Christ Lectureship will be held Oct. 20-21 with the theme of “Walking With Peter.” Saturday times are 9:30 am. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday times are 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., and Sunday night at 6 p.m.


Napier-Pollard reunion


The 23rd annual Napier-Pollard reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at the senior center building at the Perry County Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All family and friends are invited.


Fall Fun at Triangle park


Fall Fun will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Triangle Park in downtown Hazard. Free activities will include pumpkin painting, costume contest, trick or treat, hay ride and inflatables.


Friends of Dru


Friends of Dru, a fundraiser to benefit Dru Baird, a cancer patient and long time bass guitarist in Eastern Kentucky, will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Forum in Hazard. Admission is $5, and various bands will be playing throughout the day.


Big Creek reunion


A reunion of students who attended Whitaker, Eversole, and Avawam grade schools will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Big Creek Elementary School. All former students, friends, and families are welcome. Please bring a covered dish.


VFW events


The following events will take place at the Hazard VFW this year: Make a Difference Day, Oct. 27; Halloween Party, Oct. 27; Veterans Dinner, Nov. 10; Ladies Luncheon, Nov. 17; Christmas Party, Dec. 14; and Light A Child’s Christmas, Dec. 16.


Kiwanis chili cookoff


The Perry County Kiwanis Club will be having its annual chili cookoff on Oct. 20 in the Perry County Park starting at 2 p.m. and extending until 5 p.m. There is no charge to enter your chili in the competition. Traveling trophys are given for the best chili and for the best decorated table/booth. If you don’t want to enter your chili thats fine you can be a taster. Five dollars will you get a tasting of all the chilis, soft drink, and dessert.


Fall Carnival at Hazard Pavilion


The Hazard High School cheerleaders will host a fall carnival fundraiser at the Hazard Pavilion, Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5 until 8 p.m. There will be fun for all ages, featuring games, prizes, giant slide, haunted house, costume contest, cake walk and concessions.


Bridge dedication ceremony


A bridge dedication ceremony will be held Sunday, Oct. 21 to honor Sgt. Barry Andrew Combs, an Iraq war veteran who served two tours of duty. The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at the gymnasium on the campus of Hazard High School.

Trick-or-Treating set Oct. 30


Officials in the city of Hazard announced trick-or-treat times this week. The year’s trick-or-treat activities will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.
