Sterling “Sony” Bowling, 60, of Campton, died Friday, Oct. 19 in Campton.
A lifelong companion of Sheila Banks, he was the son of the late Jim and Zona Johnson Bowling and born in Leslie County on March 10, 1952. He was a carpenter as well as a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by Sheila Banks; sons Mark Kilburn of Kentucky and Michael Bowling of Campton; special brother Bige Bowling and fiance Penny Allen of Hazard; sisters Brenda Daughtery and husband David of Pikeville, Joyce Terry and husband Charles of Atlanta, and Ann Riley and husband Richard of Middletown, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Sony James Bowling; brothers James, Lindon, and Robert Bowling; and sisters Mary Bowling and Jean Robinson.
He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends, as well as his beloved pets, Blackie, Brutis, and Smokey Joe.
Arrangements were handled by Porter & Son Funeral Directors of Campton, and the services were held on Sunday, Oct. 21 with Bro. Eugene Haney officiating. Burial followed in the Moore Cemetery in Whetstone.
