Perry Central’s Boys Cross Country team took third at the Area 9 Championships that covers all the schools in southeastern Kentucky on the beautiful new course at Harlan County High School. With a team score of 81, the boys finished behind Letcher Central with 15 and Harlan County with 49.

The Commodore team was led by Hunter Newsome with a 12th place finish, Bobby Mosley at 15th, Chris Williams finished 18th and Bradley Colwell was 20th. First year runners Kenneth Beverly and Lucas Dixon did well also, with Dixon setting a personal record.

For the girls, Kayla Everidge passed numerous runners in the final half mile to put her into a top 10 finish. Teammate Courtney Fraley did well with a 14th place finish.

In the elementary championship, Haley Beverly completed the 1 mile course in 3rd place.

At the middle school championship, Stone Beverly finished 11th.

The runners are training hard for the regional tournament that is coming soon on the first weekend of November at Harlan County. This past race was a practice run to see how the regional course was set up and where difficulties could occur. The team will run at Clay County this Thursday, which will probably be their last regular season event.
