The Perry County Central Commodores took on the Letcher Central Cougars for the championship of the 14th region in soccer. The Cougars won three of three over the Commodores during the regular season, with the third being the district title game.
The game began with a defensive intensity that left both teams struggling to get a good look at the goal. Letcher Central dominated the ball in the first 10 minutes, and then Perry Central took their turn. The Commodores big break came when Dane Mullins played a ball out of the corner, and took it straight to the Cougar defense. Mullins goal would prove to be the only of the game.
Perry Central settled into their defense for the second half, and held Letcher Central to scant looks at the goal. The Commodores went on to claim the title by the final count of 1-0.
Perry Central’s Dane Mullins, Corey Mullis, Dylan Wooton, Tyler Holland and Chris Saylor were named to the All-Tournament team, with Saylor receiving the MVP honors.
