The second game of the girls’ sixth grade tournament featured the Chavies Lady Cardinals and the Dennis Wooton Lady Eagles. The game was very close throughout the first half, with Chavies pulling out the late win to move on in the tournament.
The two teams traded baskets in the opening period, with Chavies gaining the slight edge. The free throw difference sent the Lady Cardinals into the second frame with the 7-6 lead.
The tit-for-tat battle continued into the second frame, with the free throw advantage holding throughout. The Lady Cardinals went into the locker room with the 11-10 advantage.
Chavies could not shake Dennis Wooton in the third quarter as well. The Lady Eagles continued to hang in there, but a late basket gave the Lady Cardinals a four-point margin going into the final period (17-13).
The Lady Cardinals pulled out all the stops in the final period, and began to open up a little breathing room. Chavies went on to win the game by the final count of 25-15, putting them in the next round.
