James William “Roho” Tarter, 77 of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.


He was born on Sept. 1, 1935 in Nancy, Ky. to the late Hillard and Ina Wesley Tarter. Mr. Tarter was of the Baptist faith. He formerly worked as an electrician for Pike Electric in Hazard, and loved hunting, fishing, camping, and the outdoors.


He is survived by sons Jack Tarter and wife Elizabeth of Somerset, Mike Tarter of Somerset, Danny Tarter and wife Tiffany of Pennsylvania, Homer Stacy and wife Sandy of London, Robert Paul Stacy and wife Vicki of Nicholasville, Ky., Bert Stacy of Hazard, and Matt Stacy of Hazard; daughters, Phyllis Kidd and husband Jeff of Somerset, Tammy Dick and husband Morris of Somerset, Judy Combs of Combs, and Jami Tarter of Hazard; daughter-in-law Sandy Tarter of Somerset; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Coy Tarter and wife Louise of Ohio; and sisters Wilma Hensley and husband Earl of Florida, and Luretha Goforth.


Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Tarter, whom he married in March 1983 in Hazard; son Jerry Tarter; and brothers Vertrees and Verthel Tarter.


Funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 17 at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, with Brother Bill Dawson officiating.
