Police ask for help in locating wanted man

HAZARD — A man who authorities describe as a persistent criminal offender is on the loose, and the Hazard Police Department is looking for the public’s help in tracking him down.


According to city police, 25-year-old James Barger of Gays Creek is responsible for several thefts across the Hazard area. He also has numerous felony and misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest.


According to witnesses that have made statements to police, Barger has been seen with a handgun and is considered armed and dangerous. If you see Barger, contact authorities but do not attempt to apprehend him since he may be carrying a weapon.
