On Wednesday, the Buckhorn Wildcats and the Leslie County Eagles took to the hardwood with a shot at the finals of the 54th district on the line. The momentum swung back and forth throughout the game, with the outcome coming down to the final shot.
The first quarter started with each team trying to set the tempo. Neither team was able to set the standard, and a late rally by Leslie County gave them the 10-7 lead at the horn.
Buckhorn picked up the pace in the second period, and began to pull away. The Wildcats not only took the lead, but went into the locker room with the 28-21 advantage.
Only a few minutes into the third period, Leslie County had taken back the momentum, and the lead. Buckhorn was able to battle back, and made it a new game at the horn (36-all).
The battle raged on in the fourth quarter, and with four minutes remaining, Buckhorn trailed 44-40. The Wildcats then went on a tear, going up 45-44 just a couple of minutes later.
The two teams traded baskets down the stretch, and with 24 seconds on the clock, Leslie County took the 50-49 lead. The Wildcats set their offense for the final shot, and eventually got a good look with a couple of seconds remaining. The shot was off the mark, and the Eagles moved into the finals with the 50-49 win.
