Virginia F. Martin, 89, died Tuesday, March 19 in her residence at Salem, In.
She was born July 24, 1923, in Salem, the daughter of the late James G. Berkey and Lennie R. Berkey. She was a registered nurse and homemaker, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald L. Martin, whom she married on Sept. 27, 1947, and three brothers and one sister.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Salem and a member of the P.E.O. Chapter DB in Salem, and had been a resident of Washington County for most of her life. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University and graduated in 1948 with a Masters in Nursing from the Yale School of Nursing.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann Bucksot of Indianapolis and Gail Napier of Salem; sons Donald C. Martin of Salem and Richard E. Martin of Charlottsville, Va.; sister Eleanor Frew of Flossmore, Il.; and five grandchildren
Arrangements were handled by Dawalt Funeral Home. The visitation will be held Friday, March 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at First Christian Church of Salem. Visitation will continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, with services beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem.
