The Buckhorn Wildcats traveled to Pippa Passes last week for a double-header with the June Buchanan Crusaders. The Wildcats took the first game behind a strong first inning, and swept the day with a drawn-out scoring rally.
In the first game, Buckhorn plated seven runs in the first inning. It would be all the runs the Wildcats would get in the game, and all the runs they would need to win it.
June Buchanan scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 7-2. The Crusaders would manage but one more run in the game, setting the final score at 7-3. Shannon Blank got the win for the Wildcats (6 strikeouts and 2 walks).
Buckhorn stats: Shannon Blank 1 hit and 1 RBI, Alex Stokely 1 run, Johnavan Stidham 1 run and 1 hit, Richard Stidham 1 run, Josh Griffith 1 run, Tim Baker 1 run and 1 RBI, Nick Stidham 1 RBI, Austin Napier 1 run and CJ Davidson 1 run.
In the second game, Buckhorn would not put all their runs across at one time. The Wildcats would score in four different innings.
June Buchanan took the early lead with a single run in the first inning. Buckhorn took the lead in the third inning, but allowed the Crusaders to tie the game in the bottom of the inning (3-3).
The Wildcats would begin to pull away in the fourth inning (5-3), and finished off the Crusaders with a three run rally in the fifth (8-3).
Buckhorn would go on to win the game by the final count of 8-3. John Stidham got the win for the Wildcats (8 strikeouts and 3 walks).
