The Perry County Central Lady Commodores played in the semifinals of the 14th region softball tournament last Tuesday, May 28. Their opponent would be the top-rated Estill County Lady Engineers.
The game remained scoreless until the third inning when the Lady Commodores managed a run. Whitney Evans was able to cross the plate after a hit by Shelby Sheffield (1-0). The Lady Engineers would tie the game in the fourth inning.
Perry Central went back up 2-1 in the fifth inning. Whitney Back took advantage of a slow throw back to the infield and crossed the plate.
The wheels would then fall off for the Lady Commodores as the Lady Engineers would score four times in the bottom of the inning (5-2). Estill County would follow the rally with four more runs in the sixth inning, giving them the 9-2 lead.
Perry Central would not be able to rally in the seventh inning, giving Estill County the 9-2 win.
Perry Central stats: Pam Sebastian 3 hits, Whitney Back 3 hits and 1 run, Whitney Evans 1 hit and 1 run, Rachel Curry 1 hit, Shelby Sheffield 2 hits and 1 RBI, Hannah Johnson 1 hit and Maddi Minks 1 hit. Shelby Sheffield 9 runs, 12 hits, 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.
