The 2013 high school volleyball season is just around the corner. Area teams are putting the final touches on their game as they prepare to hit the court.
The Buckhorn Lady Wildcats will not play this week, but will host the Owsley County Lady Owls next week. The Lady Wildcats will return a young team that fought through a tough season in 2012.
Buckhorn has a short schedule posted on the KHSAA website, with only 12 games posted.
The Hazard Lady Bulldogs will be favored to repeat as district champions. The Lady Bulldogs will start their season next week, traveling to Breathitt County on Aug. 20, and Knott County on the 22nd.
Hazard will play a tougher schedule this season in preparation for the post season. The Lady Bulldogs have 24 games on their schedule, with nearly half of them being tournament play. They also only have six home games scheduled.
Perry Central will be the unknown in this year’s season. The Lady Commodores have a pair of new head coaches, Kelly Te Huna and Whitney Navarez, and an untested roster.
The Lady Commodores will hit the floor on Aug. 20, hosting Knott Central. They will follow that with another home game against Powell County on the 22nd.
