HAZARD – A Perry County woman indicted in August on charges of child and sexual abuse entered a plea during a court appearance this week.

Brenda K. Noble, also known as Brenda Bales, made her initial court appearance in Perry Circuit Court on Thursday where she pleaded not guilty to first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, and four counts of first-degree criminal abuse.

According to the indictment returned on Aug. 16, Noble, 40, of Big Creek, is alleged to have had deviate sexual intercourse with a juvenile less than 12 years of age on or before January 2008 to 2012, and subjecting the child to sexual contact during the same time period.

She is additionally charged with abusing two juveniles between 2001 and 2008 by confining the children “in a small attic without plumbing or electricity” and preventing them from attending school or obtaining medical treatment. The indictment alleges the children became severely malnourished as a result of the abuse.

Both of the children were under the age of 12 at the time the abuse was alleged to have taken place.

Noble is being held on a $75,000 bond, which was not lowered during her arraignment on Thursday. She is currently set for trial on Feb. 10, 2014, and will appear for a pretrial hearing on Jan. 8, 2014.
