Commodores collect road win over Breathitt

The Perry County Central Commodore football team traveled to Jackson this past weekend to take on the Breathitt County Bobcats. The Commodores fell behind early and relied on a late touchdown to give them the 20-14 win.


Breathitt County scored on the very first play of the game. The Bobcats struck on a 65-yard pass play that ended in the end zone, and gave them the 7-0 lead.


Perry Central also scored on their first possession. However, it would take the Commodores seven plays to break the goal line. Nathan Pray escaped the defense to ramble 26 yards for the score. The Commodores failed on the conversion, setting the score at 7-6.


On the first play of the second quarter, the Commodores struck again. This time, Nathan Pray hit Tyler Fugate on a screen pass that covered 76 yards. Tyler Lawson ran in the conversion, giving Perry Central the 14-7 lead.


The 14-7 score held until the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter. Breathitt County was able to fall on a Perry Central fumble in the end zone. After the extra point, the score was tied at 14.


With less than two minutes to play, Tyler Fugate pulled in an interception, giving the Commodores a shot at the win. Perry Central was able to pick up the game-winning touchdown with only seven seconds on the clock. Nathan Pray hit Josh Garry on a one-yard pass, giving the Commodores the 20-14 win.
