Hazard Health and Rehab taking up collections for local food pantries
Hazard Health and Rehabilitation Center will be collecting food items through the end of September to help stock food pantries for the upcoming holidays. Food pantries everywhere are feeling the effects of the crunch on coal businesses and are struggling to provide food for the increasing number of households that are no longer able to make ends meet. Please help by donating non-perishable food items or by making monetary donations. You can drop off items at Hazard Health and Rehabilitation Center from now until Sept. 30.
Corner Haven Radio Day
The first ever Corner Haven Radio Day on WSGS/WKIC/WJMD will broadcast on Tuesday, Oct. 1. This call-in event will raise money to help keep Community Ministries’ Corner Haven Crisis Center open 24/7 for adult men and women experiencing homelessness. As part of the Run for the Hills Charity Challenge, the first $10K raised will be matched and placed into Community Ministries’ permanent endowment at the Foundation for Applachian Kentucky. Salvation Army clothing giveaway
The Salvation Army will host a clothing giveaway on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Hazard National Guard armory from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The giveaway will include free clothing, both new and used, all sizes for the entire family. There will also be household items, furniture, and toys available. Please bring your own bags.
National Public Lands Day at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park
Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park will hold a two-day event to celebrate National Public Lands Day. On Friday, Sept. 27, one can join a work crew and volunteers from Cumberland Falls and Buckhorn Resort Parks as they mark out a lake trail. Efforts will continue on Sept. 28 along with a cleanup and beautification projects. Any child or adult is welcome to participate in the cleanup and beautification projects on the park, and in sessions on “Leave No Trace” and “Project Learning Tree,” along with Scout groups, who can earn patches and certificates. Celebration at Lothair Community Church
The members of Lothair Community Church are happy to announce their first-year celebration and special singing set for Saturday, Oct. 3. The church, located at 316 3rd Street, will host the celebration beginning at 2 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to come out and enjoy the music of God and experience His love through song. There will be good fun and great fellowship after the service.

Viper High School Reunion
The reunion for the former Viper High School and old Viper Elementary will be at the Perry County Senior Center in Hazard beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 through late Saturday, Oct. 5. Bring food to share for pot-luck picnics Friday and Saturday afternoon, and Saturday evening at 5 p.m. A $5 donation per person for one and/or all events will help with expenses. All who attend the schools, friends, and family are welcome. A fund raising auction of donated items will be held Saturday evening. Camp Nathanael Family Night Hike
Camp Nathanael will host Family Night Hike on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Learn about animals up close with “Silly Safari.” There will also be hay rides and refreshments. CPR training offered
Hazard Community and Technical College will offer CPR training at the Technical Campus. Classes will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the following dates: Oct. 15, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, and Nov. 19.
