The Hazard Bulldog football team traveled to Jackson on Friday to take on the Breathitt County Bobcats. Hazard needed the win to get right after a close loss to Fairview, while Breathitt County needed a win to stop a three-game skid.
Hazard took the early lead as Jacob Blanton hauled in a 26-yard pass from Tanner Morgan. Blanton also grabbed the conversion for the 8-0 lead. The lead would stand as the first period mark.
Breathitt County found the end zone early in the second period. Glen Campbell took a seven-yard pass from Adam White. However, they would fail on the conversion, leaving them short 8-6.
Hazard rounded out the half with a touchdown. Cade Fletcher pulled down a six-yard pass from Morgan. Chris Hudson then hooked up with Morgan on the conversion for the 16-6 lead.
The two teams traded touchdowns to start the second half. Hazard got a two-yard run by Alex Francis (Blanton added the conversion), and Breathitt found the end zone as Wes Noble caught a 36-yard pass from White. This left the score at 24-12.
The Bulldogs ended the third period with a touchdown by Kody Arnett. Arnett pulled away from the defense for a 23-yard score. Going into the final period, Hazard held the 30-12 advantage.
Hazard went up 36-12 in the fourth quarter. Chris Hudson scored on a 49-yard catch and run for the touchdown. Breathitt added a touchdown late, but it would do little to avoid the outcome. The Bulldogs went on to win the game by the final count of 36-20.
The win sets Hazard’s regular season record at 3-2, while Breathitt County dropped to 1-4.
