The Hazard Lady Bulldogs’ volleyball team played five games this past week, coming away with a 4-1 record. The Lady Bulldogs lost their first game of the week on the road at Pikeville, but finished strong with yet another win over Letcher Central on the road, and three wins in the East-West Throwdown tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs began the week on the road at Pikeville. Hazard had a difficult time getting out of the blocks as the Lady Panthers dominated. The Lady Bulldogs went down 3-0.
Hazard started slow, and failed to pick up the pace. The Lady Bulldogs lost game one by the final tally of 25-14. Things did not get much better in game two as Hazard fell by the final score of 16-25. They were unable to avoid the sweep as game three went to Pikeville 25-15.
Hazard stats: Sarah Pratt 10 assists; Maddison Niece 3 kills, 1 dig, 1 ace; Hope Clark 5 kills, 4 blocks, 4 aces; Marjorie Hammonds 4 kills; Ashleigh Bryant 3 kills; Brinkley Chitwood 3 digs; and Madison Gadbury 2 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs then had a midweek game with the Letcher Central Lady Cougars. Hazard already held three wins over Letcher Central this season.
The first game was close, but Hazard managed to stay one step ahead. The Lady Bulldogs held off a late charge to collect the 25-21 win.
Game two would not be so close as Hazard dominated the contest and took the 25-17 win. This gave Hazard the 2-0 lead, with only one more win needed to take the match.
However, the Lady Bulldogs would not be able to hold their focus, and the Lady Cougars made their move. Letcher Central was able to pull of the 25-11 win, forcing a fourth game.
Game four proved to be the best game of the match. The two teams battled back and forth throughout, and the game eventually needed extra serves to settle the matter. Hazard took the match with the 27-25 win in game four.

Over the weekend Hazard played in the East-West Throwdown tournament at Letcher Central. The Lady Bulldogs pulled off win over Estill County, Whitley County, and Jenkins.
Hazard defeated Estill County 2-0 in their first match-up. The Lady Bulldogs took game one by the score of 25-14, and game two 25-12.

The Lady Bulldogs then took on the Whitley County Lady Colonels. Again, Hazard needed but two games to finish the match. They took game one 25-17 and game two 25-18.

The evening concluded with the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers. The first game was close, and ended with a 25-19 score. However, game two would not last very long as the Lady Bulldogs closed out the match 25-4.
