Commodores fall to Letcher on the road

The Perry County Central Commodores traveled to Letcher Central this week to take on the Cougars in a district football match-up. The Commodores were looking to stay atop the district standings with the win.

Letcher Central got on the board first as they were able to score on their first possession. After the extra point, the Cougars held the 7-0 lead.

Perry Central countered with a touchdown of its own near the end of the first period. The Commodores finished a 16-play, 85-yard drive with an eight-yard Devan Brewer run. The conversion was no good, setting the score at 7-6.

Key plays during the drive included a 25-yard run by Nathan Pray. Pray also threw a 16-yard pass to Tyler Fugate. Fugate caught two long passes during the drive, the other came from Seth Napier.

Perry Central took the lead early in the second period as John Toomer caught a four-yard, 4th down pass from Nathan Pray (Pray also had a 23-yard pass to Tyler Fugate during the drive). The conversion fell, giving the Commodores the 12-7 lead.

The Cougars came roaring back in the third period, scoring on consecutive drives. Both touchdowns came on one-yard runs. The rally put Letcher Central up 22-12.

Perry Central was able to muster but one touchdown in the fourth quarter. Pray put the Commodores in the red zone with a 25-yard pass to Tyler North, and a 30-yard pass to Koty Taylor. Pray then ended the drive with the three-yard run.

The Commodores would not be able to complete the comeback, and fell 22-18. Perry Central had opportunities during the game as they had two touchdowns called back, and collected 155 yards of penalties on 12 flags.
