Blanket Appalachia at Consolidated Baptist Church


Consolidated Baptist Church in Hazard will host Blanket Appalachia, a one-day distribution of new goods to those in need. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call Rev. Lowell Parker at 606-216-3076. The church is located at 180 Winterberry Street in Hazard.


Hazard Rotary Club Seeking Scholarship Applications


Attention seniors at Hazard, Buckhorn, Perry County Central, and Cordia High School. Hazard Rotary Club is seeking scholarship applications to attend HCTC. The club will offer scholarships for two 2014 seniors to attend Hazard Community and Technical College during the fall 2014 semester and spring 2015 semester. Two students from each school will each receive $1,000. Do you have high academic standing? The scholarships can be used toward tuition. The deadline for submission is Thursday, Nov. 21. HCTC Craft Fair Nov. 21 and 22


The annual Hazard Community and Technical College Craft Fair will be held Thursday and Friday, Nov. 21 and 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the First Federal Center, room 123. The event is open to the public with no admission charge. Regional artists and craftsmen will demonstrate and sell their wares, including pottery, baskets, wood carvings, quilting, crocheting, jewelry, candles, and food. Lothair Community Church Chili Supper


Lothair Community Church will host a chili supper and roundup for Jesus on Friday, Nov. 8. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and include duck and fish ponds, cupcake walk, dart game, three-legged race, and more. Call 436-1135 for more information.


VETS First Healthcare and Benefits Expo


The second annual VETS First event, a veterans Healthcare and Benefits Bazaar, is set for next week in Laurel County. The expo will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at New Salem Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 2182 N. Laurel Road in London. Experts will be on hand to discuss and offer assistance with: Veterans Benefits, Eligibility and Enrollment, Healthcare w/Free Screenings, Free Flu Shots for Veterans, Crisis Intervention, Educational Opportunities, Housing Assistance Programs, Employment Programs and more. Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s


A Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Applebee’s in Hazard from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tickets are only $5 and can be purchased at the door or from Hazard Community and Technical College. Students are sponsoring the event with proceeds going to Community Ministries for the Corner Haven Crisis Center. Tickets can also be purchased from Student Ambassadors, Campus Environment Student Club, Student Activities Club, and the Student Resource Center.


Basketball League at Homeplace


Rick Wooton is beginning a basketball league at the Homeplace in the Ary community, beginning on Sunday, Nov. 3. For more information, call Rick at 216-3013.


Big Creek Baptist Church Homecoming


Homecoming for the Big Creek Baptist Church, celebrating 60 years of faithful services, will be held Nov. 2 and 3 starting with a fish fry on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and then special singing by the group Risen from London. Sunday service will be held with former Pastor Doug Lewis along with special events from the church ending with a special meal. Everyone is welcome.


Pumpkin carving


A Pumpkin Carving session will be offered at the Kentucky School of Craft on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. for kids, age 10, to adult. Michael Flynn of the Kentucky School of Craft will demonstrate how to design your image and bring it to life in a Halloween pumpkin. Participants can carve a spooky design on their own to take home. HCTC offers ACT PREP courses


Hazard Community and Technical College faculty members will offer ACT preparation classes in science and math in the First Federal Center, room 223, from 5 to 7 p.m. each day.
