The Hazard Bulldogs and the Pineville Mountain Lions took to the gridiron on Friday with the District 6 title on the line. Hazard jumped out to the early lead and never looked back as they routed the Mountain Lions 50-28.
Pineville took the opening kickoff and went absolutely nowhere. The punt was short and picked out of the air by Josh Meehan. Meehan took the ball to the two-yard line, and then finished off the drive with the short run. Chris Hudson caught the conversion, giving the Bulldogs the 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs’ next score came in the second period. Hudson pulled in a 17-yard pass from Tanner Morgan. Morgan’s conversion pass went to Trey Higgins, putting Hazard up 16-0.
The Mountain Lions picked up the next score after Connor Ford made a 29-yard run. However, Pineville failed on the conversion, leaving Hazard with the 16-6 lead.
Hazard would post two more touchdowns before the half. Brandon Jones put the Bulldogs up 26-6 with a 25-yard run, and Hudson’s catch of Morgan’s pass went 65 yards, giving Hazard the 32-6 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a touchdown as Brandon Jones rambled 18-yards up the middle. Jacob Blanton added the conversion pass reception (42-6).
At this point, the Pineville offense went to work. The Mountain Lions scored the next three touchdowns, pulling them within a pair of scores (42-28).
Hazard closed out the game strong with a pair of touchdowns. Jason Johnson took a pass and turned it into a 58-yard scoring play. Late in the game, Kevin Eversole picked off a Pineville pass and created a 48-yard pick-6 (Hudson caught the conversion), setting the final score at 50-28.
