Pike County Central would answer in a big way. The remainder of the scoring in the half would belong to the Hawks. Pike Central went into the break leading 18-6.
Things would get worse for the Commodores after the break. After just two plays, the Hawks would put another score on the board, pushing their lead to 24-6.
As the third period came to a close, the Commodores began to pick up the pace. Seth Napier hit Tyler Fugate on an 18-yard pass that ended in the end zone. Devan Brewer leaped over the Pike Central line for the conversion (14-24).
The Hawks looked to erase the score, but just as they reached the end zone Nathan Pray out jumped the receiver for the interception. Pray then ended the drive with a 30-yard run. The conversion was fumbled in the end zone and picked up by Joey Sams, setting the score at 24-22.
The Commodores’ next drive looked as if it would stall short of the end zone, but a scrambling pass from Seth Napier on fourth down found Pray in the back of the end zone, giving Perry Central the lead (28-24).
Pike Central refused to go away. With just over a minute left in the game, the Hawks picked up a touchdown, taking the 31-28 lead.
Perry Central had 1:13 to pull off the comeback. The Commodores managed the clock well, moving 67-yards on seven plays.
