The game that the Hazard Lady Bulldogs had waited for all season took place in the semifinals of the 14th region volleyball tournament. The Lady Bulldogs took on the Letcher Central Lady Cougars for the fifth time this season, and the winner of the game would be favored to close out the tournament and advance to the state tournament.

This game would not be for the faint of heart as it would go the limit (all five games). The Lady Bulldogs opened the match with a win, but went down 2-1 before rallying to move on.

Hazard looked to be on their way to an easy win as game one got started. The Lady Bulldogs opened a big lead and went on to the 25-15 win.

However, things were about to change in a hurry. Letcher Central got their legs under them and began to make a move. The Lady Cougars jumped into the driver’s seat with back-to-back 25-22 wins, giving them the 2-1 lead.

A determined Hazard team hit the floor in game four, and Letcher Central did not know what hit them. The Lady Bulldogs led from the opening serve and went on to the 25-14 win, forcing a deciding game five.

Neither team was ready to pack up their season, and game five turned into a real barn-burner. Hazard was able to slip past Letcher Central 15-13, giving them the win, and a spot in the finals.

Hazard stats: Sarah Pratt 43 assists, Maddison Niece 9 kills and 8 aces, Hope Clark 21 kills, 8 blocks and 5 aces, Andrea Stidham 1 kill, Marjorie Hammonds 20 kills and 4 aces, Ashleigh Bryant 2 kills and 1 ace, Brinkley Chitwood 1 dig, and Madison Gadbury 3 aces.
