Commodore baseball hosts first annual Redneck 5K race

The comeback of the road race craze in Perry County continued this weekend as a handful of hardy runners gathered for the first annual Commodore Redneck Christmas 5K. The event was hosted by the the Perry Central baseball team.

Start time on Saturday saw a slight breeze and subfreezing temperature greet the runners. The group of 18 made a pair of laps around the Perry County Board of Education and the Park. When it was all said and done, Brandon Gayheart won the men’s division, followed by Michael Montgomery,as it has been in a half dozen races of late. The women’s division saw Emily Grinstead cross the line first, followed by Sonya Asher.

Under 15 men: 1st Brody Dixon and 2nd Aaron Dixon. 15-19 men: 1st Ryan Stamper. 30-39 men: 1st Michael Montgomery and 2nd Jamie Hughes. 40-49 men: 1st Scott McReynolds, 2nd Darian Ratliff and 3rd Bobby Dixon. 50 and over men: 1st David Sizemore, 2nd Clyde Smith and 3rd Bear Dixon. Under 15 women: 1st Ashlyn Dixon. 15-19 women: 1st Mahala Walker. 20-29 women: 1st Sonya Asher. 30-39 women 1st Jennifer Sandlin and 2nd Pam Dixon.
