LETTERS: Great community on display at Hazard/Perry game

December 16, 2013

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of my fellow Perry Countians for the tremendous show of support and countless number of congratulations that came my way this past week as I reached a milestone in my coaching career. It meant so very much to me and my family. I also want to thank all of my current and former players from the last three decades for their tremendous dedication. They made all of this possible for me.

More importantly, I’d like to point out how great both the Hazard and Perry Central fans and players handled themselves in their first regular season contest in quite some time, and it really has absolutely nothing to do with who won or who lost. Everybody from both sides showed that they are winners. The competition was fierce as usual, but there was a civility toward each other that stood out and made the evening special. Both groups are to be commended.

It was especially heartwarming to me to see not only the Commodore fans applaud my milestone victory during a ceremony between games but the Bulldog fans who also showed their support for me at this special moment in my career. It made me very proud to be a citizen of Hazard and Perry County. Once again, thank you to all of the residents of Hazard and Perry County for showing what a great community we live in. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas.
