On January 11, two local football players participated in the annual Kentucky/Tennessee Border Bowl. Jacob Roll of Hazard and Koty Taylor of Perry Central, along with Perry Central coach Justin Haddix, took part in the event held at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg. The event was sponsored by the National Guard.
In the past, both schools have been well represented in the event. Over the past three years, Hazard has placed standouts Jon Combs, B.J. Combs, and Jordan Olinger on the roster, while Perry Central has sent Paul Hughes, Matt Robinson, and Austin Pray to the event.
Last year, the Kentucky All-Stars had to rely on a late touchdown for the win (29-27), but this year would be different as the Kentucky All-Stars would control the game from start to finish, winning 37-13. The win gives the Kentucky All-Stars the 5-2 edge in the annual event.
