The Perry County Central Commodores and the Buckhorn Wildcats hooked up in the opening round of the boys’ 54th district tournament. The Commodores took a big lead early, and rode it to the 69-56 win.
Perry Central’s defense was converted to offense in the first period, allowing the Commodores to build a double-digit lead. Buckhorn began to hit a few shots as the period came to an end, but it was Perry Central on top 20-9 as the horn sounded.
The Wildcats picked up the pace in the second quarter, and played the Commodores even. Perry Central, however, managed to maintain their first period margin, going into the locker room with the 32-21 advantage.
Buckhorn made some inroads in the third period, cutting four points off their deficit (46-39). Perry Central got back on track in the fourth quarter, and pushed the margin back to a safe zone. The Commodores went on to win the game by the final count of 69-56.
