The Perry County Central Lady Commodores hooked up with the Leslie County Lady Eagles in the championship game of the 54th district on Thursday. The Lady Eagles won the only regular season match up, coming from behind in the final minute for the win.
The game hit a break-neck pace early as both teams raced up and down the floor with reckless abandon. Leslie County’s Katie Moore hit five three-pointers in the period, while Perry Central’s Perri Coots had five field goals inside the paint. The difference in the period would be the Lady Commodores’ defense as they led at the buzzer 22-20.
The Lady Commodores changed up their defense in the second period, and quickly began to build a lead. Perry Central created a sizable cushion going into the break, leading 45-28.
Leslie County picked up the pace in the third period, but could do little to put the Perry Central offense on ice. Going into the final period, the Lady Commodores were on top 61-45.
The Lady Commodores were able to keep the Lady Eagles at bay throughout the fourth quarter, and as time began to run down, Leslie County was forced to foul. Perry Central went 9 of 11 for free throws in the frame, lifting them to the 76-57 win.
