Hazard splits a pair at Southwestern

The Hazard Bulldog baseball team traveled to Southwestern this weekend to play a pair of games. The Bulldogs took on the Southwestern Warriors and the Clay County Tigers on this day.

The Bulldogs fell to the Warriors 1-6. Hazard’s only run came in the sixth inning, but it would not be enough as they were already down 0-6. Southwestern took the win 1-6.

Ryan Smith took the loss, going 4 innings with 8 hits, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Blake Lockhart went 1 inning with 3 hits, 0 walks and 0 strikeouts. Coby Cumbow also went an inning with 1 walk, 0 hits and 0 strikeouts.

Hazard (1) Haynes 1 hit; Wells 1 hit and 1 RBI; Meehan 1 hit; Nidiffer 1 hit; and Hughes 1 run.

The Bulldogs rebounded in their second game as they blanked the Clay County Tigers. Hazard experienced a mid-game surge that led them to the 6-0 win.

The Bulldogs scored a single run in each the fourth and fifth innings. The big blow came in the sixth inning when they touched the plate four times. The Bulldog went on to win the game by the final count of 6-0.

Kameron Conley got the win on the mound, going six innings with 2 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Blake Lockhart pitched an inning with 2 hits, 0 walks and 0 strikeouts.

Hazard (6) Haynes 1 hit and 1 run; Ratliff 2 hits and 1 RBI; Cumbow 1 hit and 2 RBI; Meehan 1 run; Akemon 1 hit; Smith 1 hit and 1 run; Conley 2 hits and 1 RBI; Lockhart 1 run; and Johnson 2 runs.
