ARY- Perry County School Board members met Wednesday at Robinson Elementary for a special called meeting to discuss changes to the school calendar as well as have their annual review of the school.
Superintendent of Perry County Schools Jonathan Jett proposed the changes to the school calendar. The last day for student attendance will be June 6. The last day for teachers will be June 13. Students will also attend school on Memorial Day this year. The school day will be extended by approximately 40 minutes, to allow each school day to be seven hours.
Teachers will be required to work on Election Day, but can either make up that time or take a personal day if they cannot work that day. The five training days after student dismissal, however, are calendar days and are in the teachers’ contracts. That mandate was handed down by Frankfort, Jett said.
Classified employee schedules are still not finalized because they are on different hours and different numbers of days.
The training the teachers will receive on the last week, June 9-13, will be decided by a survey sent out to the teachers in the district.
“Those days have to be beneficial to improve student learning,” Jett said.
The board unanimously approved the calendar changes that Jett proposed.
The new dismissal times will begin Thursday, April 3, for each school in the district, with each school letting out at the following times:
