One dead in Breathitt County collision

April 15, 2014

NOCTOR – On Saturday, April 12, 2014, at approximately 6:30p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of a collision on KY 30 East, in the Noctor community of Breathitt County. A KSP Trooper was dispatched to the scene to investigate.

The initial investigation determined that a motorcycle driven by 63 year old Leon Hansford of Noctor was traveling westbound on KY 30, when the vehicle entered a curve and crossed into the eastbound lane of the highway. The motorcycle struck a guardrail, ejecting Hansford onto the roadway. The vehicle then continued on in the eastbound lane, where it struck a vehicle driven by Billy Sword. A vehicle driven by Glenn Taulbee, which was traveling in front of the Sword vehicle, struck Hansford as he was lying in the roadway. Hansford was transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by Breathitt County Coroner George Griffin. Hansford was not wearing a helmet at the time of this collision, and alcohol and drugs are not suspected as a contributing factor. This collision remains under investigation by KSP Post 13.
