Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Certain things can only happen in certain places. For example, this could only happen in Hazard, Ky.

Stephen W. Mullins is the true measure of a man. Thirty-four years ago, at the age of 18, he started working in the coal industry. He has moved up over the years, through hard work and dedication, to become one of the most trusted men in the industry.

Stephen W. Mullins is a focused family man. A man who has been married for over 30 years and raised a family. A proud husband, father, and grandfather. The safety and security of his family is the first and foremost concern in life.

Why is this hard working family man being railroaded into jail? Stephen W. Mullins was defending his family and his property. So, why is Stephen W. Mullins being persecuted for defending his family and his home? So, is the prosecution and imprisonment of Stephen W. Mullins what Samuel Adams, one of the framers of the Constitution of the United States and forefather of this country, had in mind when he said, “the right of self-defense never ceases?”

These thoughts are shared by family and friends.

Stephen W. Mullins

Bonnyman, Ky.
