BUCKHORN—Former UK wildcat Jeff Sheppard travelled to Buckhorn School Thursday afternoon to speak to students about making sure not to let drugs get in the way of their dreams.

“There’s nothing secret. Nothing I say is going to be any new—I’m just going to tell a different story,” Sheppard addressed the students in Buckhorn’s gym.

Sheppard, who played basketball for UK from 1993-1998 during which time the team won two NCAA championships, spoke of his experiences during his basketball career, explaining that he never gave up on his dreams or let anything get in the way of them.

“The drug problem in the area is an epidemic and it’s pulling young people away from their goals, from their dreams,” he said.

Sheppard said to combat the increasing pull of drug abuse on youth that the students should continue to make sure they are on the straightest path toward their dreams and goals.

“The shortest distance between two points is a straight line,” he said. “You need to make sure you stay on that straight line to your goals and not let any of these distractions pull you off.”
