HAZARD—Parents and children filled the First Federal Center at Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) last week to help raise awareness for child abuse at the annual Kentucky River Community Collaboration for Children Conference.

During lunch on Wednesday at the conference, which hosted booths from many organizations and nonprofits in the area, poster contest winners were announced from the Child Abuse Awareness Poster Contest. Special guest and Ms. Kentucky Jenna Day spoke to the crowd then helped present each award to each winner of the contest.

In Perry County, nine children won in three different grade levels. For the preschool-kindergarten category, Caylee Noble, Miranda Engle, and Max Campbell took home trophies and medals. Taylor Neace, Alexa Napier, and Kailey Gayhart won in the first-third grade category, and for the fourth-sixth grade category, Dalton West, Cody Colwell, and Missy Howard won.
