HAZARD—Members of the Perry County March of Dimes committee met at the Hazard City Hall Monday morning to celebrate the proclamation of the week of April 7 as March of Dimes March for Babies Week.

Mayor Nan Gorman signed the proclamation in her office alongside members of the March of Dimes committee.

The March of Dimes has been a leader in research, services, education and advocacy to help prevent birth defects. According to the proclamation, 7,662 babies in the nation are born premature each year, and 1,690 are born with a birth defect.

The March for Babies is the organization’s largest fundraising event, and helps raise money to support programs and research to help mothers have healthy, full-term pregnancies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
