HAZARD- In the space of a week two of the candidates running for the U. S. Senate seat in Kentucky made stops in Hazard.
On Wednesday, May 14, current Kentucky Secretary of State and Democratic candidate for state Senate Alison Lindergan Grimes stopped in Hazard as part of her Kentucky Jobs Bus Tour.
The tour traveled across much of the state making scheduled stops in 50 Kentucky counties. Grimes met with constituents and area officials at the Perry County Park in one of the picnic shelters. She was joined by former Governor Martha Layne Collins, former Governor Paul Patton, and current Speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives, Greg Stumbo.
After meeting prospective voters and speaking with those assembled, Grimes continued her bus tour across the state.
On Monday, May 19, current U.S. Kentucky Senator, Republican Mitch McConnell stopped in Hazard as part of an invitation only, seven stop, flying tour as part of his campaign for re-election.
Senator McConnell, accompanied by his wife, former U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, touched down at Wendel Ford Airport in Hazard. He spoke briefly with constituents and officials gathered at the airport before heading out on his next stop.
