The Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Rockcastle County Rockets on Friday, and needed the win to even their regular season record at 3-3.

The Commodores got on the board first as they would score on the second play of the game. Nathan Pray took the keeper 54 yards to the end zone. Devan Brewer caught the conversion for the 8-0 lead.

Rockcastle County’s first score would also come in the first period. However, they would chew up a large portion of the quarter for their touchdown. The Rockets would also convert to tie the game at eight.

Perry Central put a little distance between them and Rockcastle early in the second period. The Commodores would score twice as John Toomer hauled in a 35-yard pass from Nathan Pray, and Devan Brewer broke through the line for a 66-yard touchdown run (Michael Shepherd added the extra point on the second), giving Perry Central the 21-8 lead.

The Commodores literally handed the Rockets a touchdown late in the quarter. Perry Central was trying to avoid a big loss, and tried the lateral. The throw went poorly, and Rockcastle County picked up the ball and ran it in for the score (21-15).

Perry Central didn’t waste any time getting the score back. On the next possession, the Commodores found the end zone as John Toomer caught his second touchdown from 14 yards out. Perry went into the locker room with the 27-15 lead.

The Commodores went up 33-15 early in the third period as Devan Brewer carried several would-be tacklers into the end zone for a four-yard score. The Rockets came right back with a touchdown to erase the score (33-21).

Before the end of the third period, Devan Brewer scored his third touchdown of the night, this time on a seven-yard run. John Toomer caught the conversion, giving the Commodores the 41-21 lead.

The next score also belonged to Perry Central. After the defense held on a fourth-and-short, Jordan Combs blasted through the defense for a 15-yard touchdown (47-21).

Perry Central went to their bench for the latter part of the fourth quarter, and Rockcastle County was able to take advantage. The Rockets scored a pair of late touchdowns, to no avail, to bring the final score to 47-37.
