On Saturday, the Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers. The game featured two of the state’s top scorers in Perry Central’s Kayla Ranking and Jenkins’ Whitney Creech.
The game opened with a furious pace, each team pulling out all the stops. The Lady Commodores were able to outpace the Lady Cavaliers 25-17 in the first period.
The dizzying pace took its toll on Jenkins, though, in the second period as Perry Central began to pull away. The Lady Commodore margin topped 20 points in the frame, allowing the team to go into the locker room well in command at 56-35.
The Lady Cavaliers increased their intensity in the third period in an attempt to get back into the game. However, Perry Central was able to match them basket for basket, taking a 83-58 lead into the final frame.
The Lady Commodores increased their lead to over 30 points in the fourth quarter, and quickly went to their bench to finish the game. Jenkins used their press during the final minutes to cut into the lead, but could not stop Perry Central from taking the 105-83 win.
Kayla Rankin finished the game with 45 points (16 rebounds), while Jenkins’ Whitney Creech finished with 43 points.
