Last week, the Hazard Bulldogs took on the Knott Central Patriots in the finals of the 14th region tournament. The Bulldogs took the early lead, and controlled the tempo for nearly the entire 32 minutes. However, they were unable to hold off the Patriots in the end, falling 49-47.

Hazard had trouble getting out of the gates, but their defense was strong enough to keep Knott Central at bay. The Bulldogs ended the first period with the 11-7 lead.

The momentum continued to hold on the Bulldogs side of the floor in the second period, allowing them to pull ahead. Again, defense led the way for Hazard as they held Knott Central’s Justice scoreless in the half, sending them to the locker room with the 27-12 advantage.

Knott Central began to find their offense in the third period, while Hazard’s offense remained steady. With eight minutes remaining to play, the Bulldogs clung to the 40-33 lead.

The Patriot onslaught continued in the fourth quarter, and with 6:39 on the clock, they were within one at 40-39. A minute later, Knott Central went up for the first time since the game’s opening minutes (41-40).

The game went back-and-forth at this time, and with 15 seconds left, it was knotted at 47. Knott County got the final basket late, and went on to win the game by the final count of 49-47.

Hazard (47) Josh Hollan 15, Griffin Wells 5, Matt Thompson 4, Collier Mobelii 2, Chris Hudson 12, Mack Hall 3 and Hunter Hardy 6.
