The Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Clay County Lady Tigers in high school softball action this week. The Lady Commodores took the early lead, but could not hold on as the Lady Tigers bested them in nine innings.

The Lady Commodores were able to eek out a run in the first inning as Shelby Sheffield sent one to the wall (1-0). Perry Central added two more in the second inning as Mahala Walker brought two across the plate (3-0).

Clay County began to inch their way back into the game starting in the fourth inning. The Lady Tigers scored a single run in each the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to force extra-innings.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning. Clay County scored two in the top of the ninth, and when Perry Central could not reciprocate, the Lady Tigers took the 5-3 win.

Perry Central (3) Emilee Eversole 1 run; Rachel Curry 1 run; Kim Riddle 1 run; Shelby Sheffield 2 hits and 1 RBI; and Mahala Walker 1 hit and 2 RBI. Shelby Sheffield 9 innings, 5 runs, 4 errors, 5 walks and 9 strikeouts.
