On Monday, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs and the Perry Central Lady Commodores opened the 2014 volleyball season with a district match up. The contest was full of excitement as it would take five games to settle the dispute.


Hazard came out strong, leaving Perry Central stunned, taking game one by the score of 25-8. The Lady Commodores rallied in game two, and fended off a late rally by the Lady Bulldogs to even the contest with the 26-24 win.


Perry Central continued to hold the momentum in the third game, and eeked out the 25-23 victory. However, Hazard was not willing to concede the match, and rallied to force a fifth game with the 25-16 win (2-2).


The Lady Bulldogs would leave little doubt as to the outcome of the match as they blitzed the Lady Commodores 15-4 in the fifth game. Hazard walked away with their first district win 3-2.


Hazard stats: Madison Gadbury 2 kills, 4 assists and 6 aces, Ashleigh Bryant 3 kills and 3 aces, Hope Clark 28 kills, 8 blocks and 7 aces, Hannah Neace 2 kills, 23 assists and 1 ace, Kaeley Deaton 1 kill, Destiny Walker 2 kills, Brinkley Chitwood 1 kill, 2 digs and 1 ace, and Marryn Mobelini 1 ace.


Perry Central stats: Aces (2) Morgan Eversole 1 and Ariel Williams 1, Assists (30) Kassey Smith 7, Kills (19) Morgan Eversole 6 and Ariel Williams 6 and Blocks (24) Meghan Brock 8.
