Patriot Coal’s job fair slated for Tuesday, Jan. 7 at the Kentucky Career Center JobSight in Hazard has been postponed to a later date due to concerns over severe winter weather.

Patriot Coal, Hiring Our Miners Everyday (H.O.M.E.), and the Kentucky Coal Association made the decision to postpone the job fair with the safety of the region’s miners and citizens in mind, as a round of winter weather early Monday morning resulted in hazardous road conditions. Additionally, forecasts continue to call for record-low temperatures on Monday and Tuesday.

A new date has not yet been announced, but anyone wishing to be informed when the next job fair will take place can call, toll free, 1-855-466-3690 to be placed on our call list, and we will inform you of the new job fair date once it is set.

H.O.M.E. is a service of Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP) in conjunction with the Kentucky Career Center JobSight network. EKCEP provides federally funded job seeker and employer services in 23 counties in the Appalachian Kentucky coalfields.

H.O.M.E. helps out-of-work miners discover their skills, determine new career options, covers costs for them to enter classroom training, and helps place them into subsidized on-the-job training positions with area employers.

The program is also creating partnerships with employers and organizations across Kentucky and other states to help miners find and land jobs that allow them to sustain their standard of living and continue to use their skills. In these cases, H.O.M.E. can also provide limited relocation assistance to miners who accept out-of-area job opportunities.

The program is funded through a $5.2 million National Emergency Grant (NEG) from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
