JACKSON—A Mt. Sterling man lost his life in a single vehicle collision in the Cragan community of Breathitt County last week. At approximately 5:22 p.m., on June 17, Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call advising of man lying beside a motorcycle on KY 15, approximately three miles south of Jackson. Troopers and EMS were dispatched to the scene.
The initial investigation into this collision indicates that a 1993 Honda CBR motorcycle was traveling north on KY 15, when the operator, 29 year old James Lockhart, of Mt. Sterling, lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve. Lockhart was thrown from the motorcycle after it collided with a guardrail, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breathitt County Coroner’s Office, at 6 p.m.
Lockhart was wearing a helmet at the time of this collision, and there are no indications that impairment was a factor. This incident is being investigated by Trooper Loren Holliday of Post 13.
