JACKSON—Officers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard are currently investigating a single vehicle fatal collision that occurred last week. Post 13 dispatchers received a call at approximately 8:54 p.m., on Wednesday, July 2, advising that a truck had crashed on KY 1098, in the South Fork community of Breathitt County.
Troopers responded to the scene in South Fork, where they located the crash vehicle. Their initial investigation determined that a 1991 Chevrolet pick up truck was traveling east on KY 1098, when the vehicle encountered a curve in the roadway. She was later air lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she remains in serious condition. A passenger in the truck, Earl Watkins, Jr., age 42, of Jackson, was also transported to KRMC in Jackson, where he was pronounced deceased just after 10 p.m.
Seat belts were not in use at the time of this collision, and toxicology reports are pending. This collision remains under investigation by Sgt. Mike Wolfe with KSP Post 13 in Hazard.
