VICCO—A Perry County woman is in jail facing first-degree assault charges after allegedly stabbing a woman in the neck over the weekend.

Betty Jo Fields, 25, of Viper, was arrested after Kentucky State Police learned of an alleged stabbing incident in the George’s Branch community of Perry County.

KSP Post 13 was notified just before 3 a.m. on Saturday that Sonya Caudill, 25, of Viper, had arrived at the Hazard ARH emergency room with a puncture wound to her neck. Troopers were told that the altercation happened between Fields and Caudill earlier that morning on a surface mining road in George’s Branch.

Officers were able to locate Fields walking along South Kentucky Highway 15 in the Happy community, according to a press release from the KSP.

Motive for the assault is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Josh Richardson.
