CODY – A two vehicle collision on Highway 15 in Knott County last week has left one man dead.
The Kentucky State Police Post 13 is currently investigating the collision that occurred at the intersection of Highway 160, at approximately 2:44 p.m., Friday, July 11, in the Cody community of Knott County.
KSP Troopers and other first responders arrived at the scene in response to this collision. It was determined that a 2005 Ford SUV, driven by 76-year-old Johnny Childers, of Red Fox, was attempting to turn left into the southbound lane of KY 15. The vehicle pulled into the path of a 2001 International commercial vehicle, which was northbound on KY 15, resulting in the collision. The driver of the International, 40-year-old Michael Holcomb, of Mayking, received minor injuries. He was transported to Hazard ARH, where he was treated and released. Childers was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner.
Childers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of this collision. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in this collision, though toxicology reports are pending. This collision investigation is being conducted by Tpr. Brandon Thomas with KSP Post 13.
