On Saturday, prior to the conclusion of the TECO Coal Classic, the East Perry Miners and the R. W. Combs Mustangs took to the hardwood. The Miners took the early lead, and later had to hold off a serious rally by the Mustangs.

It was all Miners early in the first period. A late flurry by the Mustangs limited the East Perry lead to 13-6.

R. W. Combs got on track in the second period, and managed to outscore East Perry in the frame. However, it would be the Miners that went into the locker room with the 21-16 advantage.

The contest continued to go back and forth in the third period, with East Perry holding the advantage. With six minutes remaining, the Miners were up 32-25.

The Mustangs got hot midway through the final period as they began to erase their deficit. Noah Back hit three consecutive three-pointers, tying the score.

East Perry would not be denied down the stretch as they jumped out to the 42-39 lead with just seconds remaining. The Miners’ defense proved worthy as they denied the Mustangs a desperation shot, and held on for the win..
